Bring your number

Keep your number. We do the heavy lifting.

You only need three details from your old carrier. Grab them, hand them to Ombee, and your number follows you over. Your part takes about five minutes.

1

Leave your old service on

Do not cancel anything. Your number can only move while the line is active. The old line shuts off by itself once the switch finishes.

2

Grab three details

Your account number, a transfer PIN, and your billing ZIP code. Tap your carrier below to see exactly where each one lives.

3

Give them to Ombee

Enter the three details when you sign up. We move the number for you. Most switches finish within hours, and your phone keeps working the whole time.

Find your account number and transfer PIN

Tap your current carrier for exactly where they live. Every carrier is required to give you these, free of charge. The third detail, your billing ZIP, is simply the one on your bill.

!One rule about timing: transfer PINs expire quickly, at some carriers within a day. Ask for yours the same day you sign up with Ombee, and it will never be a problem.

With a different carrier?

Same recipe everywhere: keep your line active, then ask your carrier for your account number and a transfer PIN. Some carriers call it a port out PIN or a number transfer PIN. It is the same thing, and every carrier is required to hand it over. If you get stuck, Ombee support will help you track them down.

Good to know

The short answers to what people ask before they switch.

How long does the switch take?

Most numbers move within minutes to a few hours once Ombee submits the request. A small share take up to a day, usually because a name or ZIP code did not match the old carrier's records.

Will my phone stop working during the switch?

No. Your old service keeps working while the transfer runs, so you are never cut off waiting. There can be a brief hiccup in calls or texts right as the number lands on Ombee, and it usually passes within minutes.

Can I bring a prepaid number?

Yes. Prepaid numbers move just like any other, as long as the line is still active. On some carriers the account number and PIN live in a slightly different menu, and customer service can point you to them in a minute.

Do I need to pay off my phone first?

Your number can move either way. But if you still owe on the phone itself, your old carrier may keep it locked to their network until it is paid off. Ask them to unlock it before you switch, or pick up a new phone with your Ombee plan.

What if something goes wrong?

Almost every hiccup is one of two things: the PIN expired, or a detail did not match. Request a fresh PIN, double check your name, account number, and billing ZIP against your bill, and it usually goes through. Still stuck? The Ombee support team will walk the transfer through with you.

Three details. Five minutes. Same number.

Carriers change their menus from time to time. These steps were last checked in August 2026. If a screen looks different on your phone, your carrier can point you to the same information, or contact Ombee support and we will help you find it.
