Switching from Mint

Leaving Mint Mobile? Your number comes with you.

You need two things from Mint: your account number and your transfer PIN. Mint hands both out through chat, and an agent usually joins within ten minutes. Turn off Number Lock, start your Ombee plan, and leave Mint running until the switch finishes.

1

Leave Mint switched on

Do not cancel. The transfer closes your Mint account for you once the number has moved.

2

Open a Mint chat

Ask to port out. The agent gives you an account number and a transfer PIN in the chat window.

3

Hand them to Ombee

Start your plan, paste both details in, and your number follows you over.

Ask for the PIN the day you switch. Transfer PINs expire. Grab yours right before you start your Ombee order, not days ahead.

Why your Mint bill went up

A lot of people land here right after a renewal. On Mint's three month plans the advertised price is an introductory rate.

Three month planFirst three monthsAfter that
6GB$15.00$25.00
17GB$20.00$35.00
23GB$25.00$45.00
Unlimited$30.00$40.00

Mint's six month and twelve month plans are not introductory rates. The twelve month plans hold their price, but you pay the full term up front. Mint also lists separate monthly fees and taxes on the same disclosure. Figures taken from Mint Mobile's own FCC Broadband Facts labels, checked September 2026.

Check your phone is unlocked first

A locked phone is the most common reason a switch stalls. It takes about thirty seconds.

Good to know

Will I lose my number?

Not if you leave Mint running until the switch finishes. Your number moves across, then Mint closes on its own.

Do I have to cancel Mint first?

No, and cancelling first is the one thing that can cost you your number. A cancelled number goes back into the pool and cannot be recovered. Start the transfer and let it close the account for you.

How long does it take?

Usually minutes. It only takes longer if Mint is slow to release the number or one of your details does not match their records.

What if my details do not match?

The name, address and ZIP code on your Ombee order need to match what Mint has on file, right down to the spelling. A mismatch is the usual reason a transfer stops.

What happens to the Mint time I already paid for?

Mint sells in three, six and twelve month blocks that you pay for up front, and porting out closes the account. Mint's own policy is a full refund if you cancel within seven days of activation, and it does not publish a proration policy for unused time after that. If you are part way through a term, the cheapest move is to switch near the end of it. You can ask the agent about your balance in the same chat where you get your PIN. Mint's refund policy.

Does Mint charge anything to port out?

No. Mint's own FCC disclosure lists no early termination fee, and moving your number is free. You are only ever giving up time you already paid for, never paying a penalty.

Can I keep my phone?

Almost certainly. Two things need to be true: the phone has to be unlocked, and because Ombee is eSIM only it needs to support eSIM. Most phones from the last few years do. Check whether yours is unlocked.

Does my phone keep working while it switches?

Yes. Your Mint service keeps running right up to the moment the transfer completes, then your Ombee line takes over.

Two details. One chat. Same number.
